The UB18 is an 18-inch-wide Unfinished Shaker Base Cabinet featuring one drawer, one door, and one adjustable shelf. It provides more usable storage than a 15-inch base cabinet while remaining compact enough for layouts where only 18 inches are available.
This cabinet is commonly installed beside a sink and is our most frequently recommended base cabinet for a double 28-quart trash pullout. When it is not being used for a pullout, the UB18 is a practical choice anywhere additional cabinet storage is needed within an 18-inch opening.
Why Choose a UB18 Base Cabinet?
Choose the UB18 when you need more storage than a UB15 Base Cabinet can provide but still need to preserve space for surrounding cabinets, appliances, or walkways. The additional three inches create noticeably more usable cabinet space and provide greater flexibility for organizing kitchen supplies.
The UB18 is also our preferred cabinet size for many homeowners planning a double 28-quart trash pullout beside the sink. Its single-door configuration allows the cabinet door to mount directly to many compatible pullout systems, so the door and trash containers open together like a file drawer.

Why the UB18 Works Well for a Trash Pullout
The UB18 has one door, which makes it ideal for many door-mounted trash pullout systems. The cabinet door attaches directly to the pullout frame, allowing the entire assembly to slide forward together as one unit.
A UB21 Base Cabinet can also accommodate some trash pullout systems, but the UB18 remains our most common recommendation for a double 28-quart pullout. Standard 24-inch and wider base cabinets have two doors, making them better suited for different storage applications.
UB18 vs. UB15
The UB15 is an excellent compact cabinet when the layout is tight or only a small trash pullout is planned. The UB18 provides noticeably more storage and is the better choice for a double 28-quart trash pullout.
Whenever both sizes fit, we generally recommend the UB18 unless there is a specific reason to preserve the additional three inches elsewhere in the layout.
UB18 vs. UB21
The UB21 Base Cabinet provides additional cabinet space and may also accommodate compatible trash pullout systems. The best choice depends on your available space and the dimensions required by the selected accessory.
If the UB21 fits without creating clearance or layout problems, the additional width provides greater long-term storage flexibility. When only 18 inches are available, the UB18 remains one of the most practical base cabinet sizes you can choose.

Finishing Your Unfinished Maple Cabinet
The unfinished maple exterior can be painted, stained, or clear coated to coordinate with your project. Maple can absorb stain unevenly, so proper surface preparation and a quality wood conditioner or sanding sealer are recommended before staining.
